Religions of the Americas
Ryan G. Tobler studies the religious, cultural, and intellectual history of early America. His current research focuses on two broad cultural phenomena: the decline of Calvinism as an intellectual and cultural force in America during the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and the contestation of religious ritual in early America. He has also written on the history of Mormonism, particularly on early nineteenth-century developments in theology and practice, including Mormon baptism for the dead.
