Thomas Whittaker studies the religious culture of the north Atlantic world in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. He is particularly interested in the development of evangelical Protestantism in the British Isles and North America and the relationship of evangelicalism to the Enlightenment, humanitarianism, and national identity. He previously attended the University of Chicago, where he received an AB in History and Religious Studies as well as an AM from the Divinity School in American religious history.
