Dr. Carleigh Beriont (Ph.D. in Religion, Harvard University) is a historian of American religion. She teaches courses about religion, politics, and public policy and religion, the environment, and the American West at Harvard College and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Her current book project, For the Good of Mankind: Marshallese, Missionaries, Militaries and the Making of American Empire in the Pacific, 1857-1957, focuses on the role of religion in justifying US nuclear testing in the Marshall Islands as well as Marshallese counternarratives and resistance to US imperialism. Previously, Carleigh lived and worked as a teacher in the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
