Courtney Bickel Lamberth received her B.A. in philosophy from Columbia College in 1987 before coming to Harvard where she earned an M. T. S., A.M., and Ph. D. in the Study of Religion with a dissertation entitled “A Willing Heart: Kant’s Idea of Freedom as Spontaneity and Receptivity in Operation.” While pursuing her doctoral studies, Courtney served as Resident Tutor and then Assistant Senior Tutor at Dudley House. She taught as Visiting Professor of Religion at Mt. Holyoke College for two years before being appointed Assistant Professor of Theology at Fordham University. She returned to Harvard in 2000 to serve as Allston Burr Senior Tutor (Resident Dean) of Winthrop House and Lecturer on the Study of Religion. Courtney has since worked as Special Assistant to the Dean of Harvard College and Assistant Dean in the Office of Undergraduate Education before returning to teaching as Preceptor in the Expository Writing Program.
