"Preparing Your Teaching Portfolio"

Thursday, February 25th, 2:00-3:00pm (ET)

Dr. Eleanor Finnegan (Bok Center & PhD in Religious Studies) will lead an introductory session on how to prepare your teaching portfolio for the academic job market. She will also share tips and advice specific to religious studies, drawing on her background in the field and participation in numerous faculty searches.

"Working with Undergraduates: A Conversation with Bok Center Undergraduate Pedagogy Fellows"

Monday, March 29, 3:00-4:00pm (ET)

The Bok UPFs will lead us in conversation about the Harvard undergraduate experience and how to facilitate equity and inclusion in the undergraduate classroom. This session will be a great introduction to undergraduate teaching for folks new to TFing and for more experienced TFs who haven't yet had the opportunity to work with undergraduates (a highly coveted skill set on the academic job market!).
 

G2 TF Orientation

Tuesday, April 6th, 3:00-4:00pm (ET)

Elise and our new graduate coordinator Sam will introduce the G2 cohort to the basic logistics of the Teaching Fellow role, including pay and the appointment process. The session will also include tips and advice on finding appointments, managing workloads, acquiring pedagogy skills, joining the Harvard Graduate Student Union, and more. 

"Developing Your Teaching Statement"

Thursday, April 22nd, 2:00-3:15pm (ET)

Dr. Eleanor Finnegan will return to lead a workshop on teaching statements, which will include several activities that allow participants to reflect on acquired teaching experience and narrativize this experience to entice potential academic employers. Whether you were able to make our February workshop on teaching portfolios or not, you won't want to miss this practical session on the most essential piece of your portfolio.

PAST WORKSHOPS: FALL 2020

1. End-of-Semester Reflections, Mon. Dec 14, 3-4:30pm

   1. Together, we reflected on the semester's challenges and triumphs, collected insights on the remote teaching experience from the TF perspective, and set goals for our spring teaching growth.

2. Equity and Inclusion in the Classroom: Navigating Difficult Conversations, Wed. Oct 28, 3-4:30pm

   1. Eleanor Finnegan (PhD in Religious Studies; Assistant Director of Faculty Programming, Bok Center) facilitated a conversation on how to prepare for and facilitate difficult conversations and "hot moments" in the classroom. We reflected critically on difficult moments we have experienced in the classroom as TFs or students and then shared our best practices.
   2. What strategies have you tried? What strategies have you seen implemented by other educators? Do you have any techniques or activities you'd like to workshop with other TFs in the CSR?

3. Canvas Orientation and Best Practices Share, Tues. Sept 1, 3-4:30pm

   1. HDS technologist Kama Lord guided us through the basics of Canvas with a focus on the tools most used by TFs, including editing content, course management, creating Zoom links, and using Gradebook. This was followed by a visit from our Harvard Graduate Student Union representatives to share the details of our first contract and tips on managing workload. Carleigh and Lucy introduced TFs to new resources designed specifically for graduate student teachers in the CSR, including our new Canvas page. We then invited participants to share best practices and held an open Q&A
