Nicholas Judt is a PhD student in the Committee on the Study of Religion at Harvard University. His work focuses on West African Islamic literature, with particular emphasis on 19th-20th century Sufi poetry in Wolof and Arabic. His research interests include Islamic epistemological responses to colonialism, modern and contemporary engagement with classical Sufi thought, and the translation of Islamic ideas across linguistic and cultural contexts. Nicholas’ scholarship is animated by his passion for the beauty of poetry and the necessity of epistemic justice—and the role that the former can play in helping us realize the latter.

Nicholas received his Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature summa cum laude from Princeton University, where he also attained certificates in African Studies and Theater. In 2022, he graduated from Harvard Divinity School with a Master of Theological Studies degree in Islamic Studies.
